Installing a wireless network in hazardous area.
The Pixavi ATEX wireless network solution provides our customers with a tailored solution based on products from our wireless_networking portfolio. Pixavi has put together a versatile solution that offers access points, antennas and cabling to fit most average coverage requirements for a chemical process plant, refinery or oil platforms. Pixavi offers documentation, reference projects and recommendations to ensure a low risk installation for customers requiring a wireless network in hazardous area.
Option 1: Placing the access point (Xpoint I or similar) in safe area and using long Coax runs
Pros:
- Economical solution (depending on coax cable cost and cable length)
- Can use a wider range of antennas (intrinsically safe signal)
- No yearly EX d maintenance cost
Cons:
- Significant signal loss at high cable lengths.
- Not suitable for 802.11n at long coax runs (needs 6 parallell coax cables)
Option 2: Placing an EX-d (EX-AP-A or similar) access point in Hazardous area
Pros:
- Good signal situation (needs less access points to cover same area)
- Less coax cable cost
- Suitable for 802.11n
Cons:
- Slightly higher price
- Needs EX antennas.
Option 3: Placing an EX-di (Xpoint D or similar) access point in hazardous area
Pros:
- Good signal situation (needs less access points to cover same area)
- Can use a wider range of antennas (intrinsically safe signal)
- Suitable for 802.11n
Cons:
- Higher price.
Conclusion
The chosen solution from the above 3 alternatives depends on a lot of deciding factors. Pixavi offers all 3 to enable customers to choose the right solution in each instance.
